Royal Highness
I am wild about woodlands and intentionally take Austin’s Southwest Parkway corridor because I immensely enjoy the approximately 9-mile drive that gives me an impression during specific stretches that there is nothing but me, blue sky, and the open road.
As the sun rose on Sunday morning, I was out the door and rolling down that highway. My eyes gazing east, I shifted into fifth gear and suddenly hit the brakes and made a hard right.
Can you hear the screech of my BFGoodrich tires?!
In my line of sight, a breathtaking sunrise came up over downtown Austin and urged me to loop to the top of a nearby parking structure to take in the beauty from the highest place I could find.
As I hopped out of my truck to get visually closer, I claimed the sunrise as mine. After all, it was early Sunday morning on a national holiday weekend, which meant all was quiet on the SW Parkway.
It was just me, the majestic one, and a dazzling moment that left me feeling that I, alone, was chosen to be a part of the sun’s larger conversation with Travis County.
Sigh.
Until we meet again, find moments of unexpected joy in nature and one another. ❤️
Yours in Solidarity, -akm
