Meet the Moment
Austin, TX | ©️ 2025 Alicia Kae Miller
Dear Ones, I am not going to sugarcoat my feelings.
I am disgusted by the dismantling of decades of progress in the United States and have grave concerns about the future of our Republic.
Grrr.
There is so much to unpack here, but if you are like me, you are already overwhelmed with doom-scrolling, so guess what? Instead of zigging, I will zag and share what I have decided to do in my personal space to remain centered and focused while the fog of uncertainty seeps in and muddles my reality.
For context, not too long ago, my loved one returned to her home in the Golden State. When she departed, I intended to put my holiday decorations away. However, since that day, I have been desperate for comfort and joy, so instead of white-knuckling it alone, I unpacked my Christmas village, placed it on my fireplace mantel, and turn the lights on when I am struggling with the exhaustion of the Oval Office shock and awe show that has become our daily reality.
Phew.
Rumor has it that little things add up to big things; right now, this could not be truer for me. As I pen this perspective, I am taking solace in the warm glow and want to encourage you to ground yourself in the sweet sounds of birdsong, the truth of the stars in our night sky, and whatever brings you comfort and joy as we navigate this perilous pendulum swing.
In closing, continue to inspire through the dignity and respect that comes with seeing, hearing, and understanding one another because "empathy is inclusion, inclusion is belonging, and we all want to belong." Godspeed.
Until we meet again, recall that while islands unto ourselves, we do not have to brave emotional rough weather alone. ❤️
Yours in Solidarity, -akm
